How Does the Knitting Gauge Converter Work?

I figured out how to convert knitting gagues from Chemistry class.

It's a little bit like converting different units of measurement, otherwise known as conversion factors in Chemistry.

For example, if there are 2.5 cm in an inch, how many cm are in 7 inches?

It's a simple matter of cross-multiply-and-divide, which you likely have learned in elementary school. So you simply set (2.5/1)=(x/7). Then you rearrange so that the equation is ((2.5*7)/1)=x, and solve!

If Bob is knitting something, and his knitting pattern's gauge is 10 stitches x 7 rows makes 4x4 inches, but Bob's swatch measures 4x3 inches when he knits 10 stitches by 7 rows, how can he adjust his gauge so as to approximate the final measurements of the project? In other words, how do we convert Pattern-Author units to Bob units?

And this tool can be used not just for converting lengths, but also stitches to rows, stitches to inches, and rows to inches!
